Information for University and College Admissions Teams

Waingles is a Comprehensive Secondary School set in Woodley. We serve a diverse community and are very proud of the achievements of all of our students. In Year 13 we have 110 students. They are all on a full time educational programme of A Levels, Vocational Courses or a mixed pathway. Our students are aspirational and each year 70% of Year 13 students go on to university.

Following Government Guidelines Waingels School closed on Monday 23rd March, except for the provision for the children of Key Workers. From 23rd March students accessed class work remotely through Google Classroom or Show My Homework. On 15th June we welcomed Year 12 students on to school site for 1 day a week, in small classes. Students were engaging in one hour per week with a subject specialist to supplement their home learning.  From the 22nd June students had live MS Teams lessons with some of their subject teachers. Students completed formal assessment at the end of Year 12 and the beginning of Year 13 to inform our understanding of their progress and our predicted grades for them.

Students engaged well with the blended learning model and returned well to Sixth Form in September. From September to December we experienced very minimal disruption to learning due to Covid with only a small number of students missing lessons due to isolation. However, due to being highly vulnerable some teachers have been shielding and therefore some subjects were still delivered remotely during this time.

Since 4th January students have been following their normal timetable and attending all lessons remotely. They have completed a full and robust assessment week from 18th – 21st January.

We have been impressed with the commitment our students have shown to their studies, the skills they have employed in order to stay on top of their courses and the progress that they continue to make.
