Job Overview

  • Are you a highly skilled, successful teacher of Computing/Computer Science with a proven track record of high quality teaching and learning?
  • Are you an ambitious and passionate teacher who wants to play a pivotal role in developing and leading our whole school digital learning strategy?
  • Do you have a commitment to supporting teachers, support staff and students to make use of current and emerging technologies safely and effectively?
  • Would you like to work in a school where “Leaders, including governors, value the work of staff and where new teachers speak highly of the support they are given”? (Ofsted June 2023)
  • Are you looking to work in a thriving and well-regarded school where staff well-being is central to all of our decision making where “Better Never Stops”?

If the answer to any of these questions is “yes” then we would like to hear from you.

Waingels, a popular 11-18 school where students achieved above national average in all measures and was identified as “continuing to be good” in a recent OFSTED inspection, is seeking to appoint a Lead Practitioner for Computing & Digital Learning due to the current post holder being promoted to a senior leadership role.

This is a key role within the school and would be ideal for an experienced practitioner or an existing head of subject who is looking for an opportunity to have an impact across the whole school with every aspect of digital learning.

The successful candidate will lead the Computing Department, taking responsibility for leading the further development of the department, building on the success of a popular and highly regarded subject within the curriculum.  As an excellent teacher of Computing you will have the opportunity to teach at all Key Stages including in the Sixth Form.

Additionally this role has a significant whole school responsibility and the successful candidate will support teachers and other colleagues to use existing technologies effectively, including the use of platforms such as SatchelOne and BlueSky as well as ensuring all users, including parents can work safely and within the rules and regulations for examinations.

Working with us offers you the opportunity to:

  • Join a “kind and caring school” where pupils “enjoy being part of the inclusive community” (OFSTED 2023) that aims to be "an exceptional school at the heart of our community”.
  • Be part of a forward thinking department with well resourced schemes of work and where teachers are encouraged to be innovative and try out a range of teaching styles.
  • Engage in excellent, personalised professional development opportunities.
  • Join a school where early finishes for parent consultation evenings and free tea and coffee every day are just some of the ways we ensure staff well-being is central to our decision making.
  • Work in a school where the values of Respect, Kindness, Pride and Resilience underpin all we do.

If you feel your value and ethos align with ours, this is an exciting opportunity for you to pursue and advance your career.

Our staff and students are proud of our school and we would be happy to welcome you if you would like to come and have a closer look. Please feel free to contact us for an informal conversation about this exciting role. Please telephone the college on 0118 969 0336 or email the Headteacher’s Personal Assistant, Jane Jennings, on JenJJN@waingels.wokingham.sch.uk
