Literacy

No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world- John Keating

Welcome to the literacy page. Here you will find a variety of resources to support your child’s literacy progress across the curriculum, as well as information and celebrations of words, in all their glorious forms!

We have:

  • Recommended reading for pleasure book lists from the English department

  • Some of our Random Acts of Literature which can usually be found in odd places around the school

  • A pack of activities to support your child’s reading comprehension, based on an extract from The Light Fantastic by Terry Pratchett

  • Reading support activities which can be applied to any text when a student is struggling to make sense of it

  • A list of academic vocabulary for students

  • A guide for how to write an email

  • A guide for how to write in different forms

  • A guide for how to plan and prepare for a piece of writing

  • A guide to using the different punctuation marks

  • A pack of activities for your child to work through to practise using punctuation

  • A public speaking opportunity from the English Speaking Union

  • A list of speaking challenges to increase verbal confidence

  • Some discussion-based activities for you to do at home.
