Schools Direct

Waingels has a long and successful record in teacher training. Having been a designated Training School for a number of years, Waingels has an established programme of teacher training. We are fully supportive of those wishing to enter the profession and committed to continuing professional development. Over the years, we have embedded a network of trained mentors across all departments and have developed our own professional studies programme. We have also developed strong partnership links with many institutions. We have supported School Direct and PGCE trainees from Reading University, the University of Oxford, Oxford Brookes, The Open University, Equalitas and others. 

We currently offer two routes of training through the Wokingham Federation:

 

School Direct Training

• The trainee pays a fee from which the costs of both the school and University must be drawn.
• The trainee is not an employee of the school and would be only expected to attend school (and the University) as part of his or her training.
• The trainee
• The award would be QTS (from the DfE) and PGCE (from the University).
• We will be working in partnership with Reading University.

In addition, we work in partnership with the University of Oxford for RS trainees.

 

School Direct Salaried

 The trainee is paid a salary.

• The trainee is an employee of the school.
• The trainee is not supernumerary i.e. after a period of training the trainee will be expected to teach some (not all) lessons unsupervised.
• As part of his or her contract, there might be an expectation that the trainee takes on other duties (to be negotiated).
• The award would be QTS only (from the DfE).
• We will be working in partnership with Reading University.
