Exam Results and School Performance
Waingels is an inclusive school where everyone belongs, thrives and succeeds.
The Department for Education recommends that when making decisions on which school or college is right for them, parents and students should consider data as part of the wider context and other information sources, in particular speaking to the school or college. It is not useful to compare percentage outcomes between schools as these do not take into account the starting point of students within that school and only give information about attainment and not student progress.
Waingels has a strong track record of excellent exam results, with results consistently above national averages over many years. Students studying at Waingels can expect to make above average progress – gaining higher grades than students with the same starting points nationally. Results at Key Stage 4 and 5 continued this trend in August 2025 and continued to improve.
Students in Year 11 left Waingels with an average Attainment 8 score of 50.21- well above the annual national average 45.9 (2024) . Whilst the DFE cannot issue any school with an official Progress 8 score due to this year group not having KS2 results (COVID) we have used a nationally recognised service called SISRA to calculate our progress figures. Waingels is an inclusive school and our headline figures are for all students, and are not adjusted for students with lower than 95% attendance.
This year’s progress score of +0.61 indicates that our students made well above average progress and achieved grades two-thirds higher than students in other schools with the same starting points. The progress by our vulnerable and disadvantaged students improved for the 4th year in a row and is now consistently significantly better than the national average.
Students in all prior attainment groups made above average/positive progress, with students with high prior attainment (equivalent to a SATs score of 110 or higher) gaining on average a progress score of +0.75 meaning they achieved an average grades three quarters of a grade above target.
Students in Year 13 also enjoyed huge successes this year. Our track record of high outcomes for all students continued and initial indications are that once again our A Level students made more progress than students with the same GCSE results in other schools.
An A Level Progress score of +0.30 means our students achieved on average a third of a grade higher than expected (on top of having made more than expected progress when they were Year 11 too)
