Year 12 Safe Drive Stay Alive Trip

Tuesday 6th November marked an important day for Year 12 students, as the majority of us participated in the annual Safe Drive Stay Alive trip (SDSA) at The Hexagon, Reading. Organised by a road safety partnership including Thames Valley and Hampshire Police, local councils and emergency services, the aim of this trip is to highlight the necessity of safe driving, emphasised through harrowing stories that told the all too true consequences of not doing so. This is especially significant to us as we are now reaching, or have reached, the age to begin driving. Alongside a film, guest speakers came to share with us their own personal experiences, some of which are unlikely to be forgotten by us soon. A mother emotionally told of how she lost a daughter to dangerous driving and a girl bravely spoke of an incident that left her with brain damage. Although the event was distressing to some, the message it gave us will prove to be invaluable as we take to the roads.
