Waingels College Uniform Policy

The Policy

It is the policy of Waingel’s College that all pupils wear the uniform, as approved by governors, as a condition of entry and continued attendance.

Reasons for the Policy
    • Help promote a corporate identity inside and outside the school;
    • Prepare pupils for the expectations of adult working life with regards to personal presentation;
    • To help promote a sense of pride in, and belonging to, the school;
    • To help promote equality of opportunity and respect for others regardless of their status, background or gender;
    • Support parents in resisting unreasonable fashion demands from their children
    • Ensure that pupils are appropriately dressed for school activities.

Responsibilities of the Policy
    • The governors are responsible for all details of this policy.
    • The Headteacher is responsible for ensuring that the policy is upheld.
    • School staff are responsible for ensuring that pupils are complying with the policy.
    • Parents are asked to accept and abide by the details of this policy as a condition of their child’s entry and continued attendance at the school. They are responsible for ensuring that their child leaves for school in the correct uniform.
    • Pupils are responsible for ensuring that they are in the correct uniform on the way to and from school, during school hours and at school activities.

Changes to the Policy
    • Any changes to this policy will be discussed first at the governors’ Pupils Committee before agreement at a full meeting.
    • Parents (via their governor representatives and/or at the Annual General Meeting for parents), staff (via their governor representatives and/or at Staff Forum) and pupils (via the School Council) are provided with the opportunity to make their views about this policy known. Governors will take their views fully into account before any changes to this policy are made.

Communication of this Policy
    • Parents and staff will receive an annual written confirmation of the details of this policy at the end of each academic year to assist in the purchase of uniform during the summer holidays
    • Uniform details will be printed for pupils in their Key Stage Study Organisers at the start of each school year.

Breaches of this Policy
    • Willful breaches of this policy by pupils will result in a letter being sent to parents clearly stating the fault and requesting compliance by a given date (usually the next school day)
    • Continued or repeated willful non-compliance will result in the pupil being required to study in school in isolation from his/her peers or in exclusion from the school.
