Reasons for the Policy |

It is the policy of Waingels College that all ICT facilities, which are made available for the use of students, parents/carers, staff and governors:
- Help promote a safe and healthy working environment;
- Prepare students for the expectations of adult working life with regards to use of ICT facilities
and that everyone using these facilities accept that they must comply with the following procedures:
(all new pupils joining the school community will sign a copy of this policy to demonstrate that they adhere to the good practice which is clearly indicated within it) |

| Acceptable Use of ICT Facilities at Waingels College |

- All users must have the permission of a member of staff before using the computers.
- All users must sign on with their own UserID and Password before using the computers.
- All potential users of the Internet must understand basic conventions and navigation techniques before going on line and accessing web pages.
- All users are reminded that logs are kept of sites visited and users should be able to justify why they were visited.
- All users are required to act responsibly and use the Internet for course-related work only.
- All users are required to respect copyright and not to plagiarise others’ work.
- All users are required to treat the equipment with care at all times and must not do anything that might cause damage to the hardware or software.
- Files and WebPages may only be downloaded with the permission of a member of staff.
- Anyone uploading/downloading or communicating information/files must agree to allow the files to be checked for viruses and unsuitable material.
- All users must agree not to attempt to access unsuitable material.
- All users may only access email via the school’s preferred mail server.
- All users are reminded not to send any emails likely to cause offence to others.
- All users are reminded that the possession of certain types of unsuitable material can lead to prosecution by the police.
- All users are reminded that use of computers at Waingels College is regularly monitored.

Abuse of any of these conditions may lead to removal of Internet access rights, removal of email facilities, school detention, calling in of parents/carers, calling in of police.
