The department is part of the Mathematics and Computing Faculty, which itself is one of six curriculum teams (see attached staffing structure for summary).

Staffing
The department team comprises 12 full-time equivalent staff, three of whom are completing master degrees and one of whom is a fast-track NQT.  We are forward thinking and dynamic team and are able to offer a very supportive working environment.

Within the team there are the following TLR posts:
Subject Team Leader
KS3 Curriculum
KS4 Curriculum
KS5 Curriculum
14-19 vocational courses
Personalising Learning for the most able
Personalising Learning for the least able
Personalising Learning for Year 76

Curriculum
The subject is part of the core curriculum for all students from Y7 to Y11 and is a popular option at KS5 at AS , A2 (Maths and Further Maths and IB (Standard and Higher) levels.

The team have operated a successful policy of early entry for GCSE in Y10 for a number of years.

Timetable allocations are as follows:

Y7:                   4 x 1 hour lessons per fortnight
Y8 + Y9:          6 x 1 hour lessons per fortnight
Y10 + Y11:     6 x 1 hour lessons per fortnight
AS + A2:        9 x 1 hour lessons per fortnight
IB Standard:   4 x 1 hour lessons per fortnight
IB Higher:       7 x 1 hour lessons per fortnight

To supplement the curriculum we offer a KS3 Maths Club: GCSE revision surgeries; KS5 support sessions; the maths challenge: A-level revision, outdoor activity courses and many more.

Resources
The team occupies specialist teaching accommodation built within the last six years and includes a team base, interactive white boards and projectors in all rooms, networked PCs in all rooms and a dedicated ICT suite.

Priorities
The main priorities for the subject team over the coming twelve months are:

  • Taking full advantage of the remaining two years of the College’s initial designation as a specialist in mathematics and computing
  • Raising levels of achievement, particularly at KS4 and KS5.
  • Taking a full part in the College’s five-year transformation project (now in its third year) to develop a 21st Century curriculum
  • Re-establishing the team after the loss (to permanent or semi-retirement) of a number of key and long-serving members
